Movies

We have made several movies available of notable research results that have been generated by ASC Alliances Flash Center researchers.  Links are provided for avi, mpeg and mp4 formats when available.

Type Ia Supernova with a single bubble

tl_files/images/movie_images/single_bubble_movie.jpg

A primary thrust of the Center's research is the study of the Type 1a Supernova detonation mechanism.  Below we have a visualization of the exploding star.

Type Ia Supernova with multiple bubbles

tl_files/images/movie_images/8km_m30_80o100_rpv1_dens_0401_web.jpgWe have been examining the Gravitationally Confined Detonation (GCD) mechanism of the Type Ia supernova detonation with multiple bubbles of burning material being present at the outset of the run.  Below we have visualizations of this mechanism.

Rayliegh-Taylor Turbulent Nuclear Burning

tl_files/images/movie_images/rtflame_movie_image_web.jpg

The physics of buoyant material undergoing nuclear burning is instrumental to the study of the 1a SNe deflagration and detonation mechanisms.  To gain a better understanding of how this affects our flame model, we have performed this set of simulations.
